Teddy Pendergrass died in the Bryn Mawr hospital in Philadelphia after a longstanding battle with cancer. He had been paralyzed in a tragic car accident back in 1982. His son Teddy Pendergrass II said in a statement that he was thankful for all of his father’s fans who loved his music.
He was first recognized as a singer when he joined the popular group “Harold Melvin & the Blue Notes” in the late seventies. He later went on to a successful solo music career with 5 Platinum albums.
This interview done in 2007 reveals that he turned down the opportunity that Christopher Reeve took advantage of, sponsoring a cure for spinal injuries, stating that he preferred to help people focus on having the best life possible in their current situation.
Rest In Peace Teddy Pendergrass.
